It was championship night at Pat Hicks Field in Satsuma, Alabama tonight and the little bit of rain did not dampen any spirits. It was a true pitcher’s battle with only five runs being scored on 13 hits between the two teams in the 3-2 nightcap. It was a night of the long ball, with three home runs between the two teams.
Moh-BEEL! USA didn’t waste any time in tonight’s game against Performance Lab, scoring two off of a no-doubter from the bat of Maddy Grimm in the top of the first inning. Performance Lab would answer in the bottom of the inning with an RBI single from Khala Taylor plating Jamie Johnson. Scoring would quiet down until Courtney Reeves tied the game up with a solo shot over the left-center field fence in the fourth but the hit of the game was Ashley Razey’s homer in the top of the sixth which would put Moh-BEEL! USA on top. Performance Lab was unable to close the gap, resulting in the first win of the season for Moh-BEEL! USA’s Stephanie Texeira in the circle.
Performance Lab’s Allison Lipovsky (11-3) also went the distance only giving up eight hits and one walk to Moh-BEEL’s powerhouse offense. Lipovsky retired twelve batters via strikeout, while Texeira sat down three of Performance Lab’s hitters on her own. Lipovsky tallies those strikeouts to add to her already impressive 150+ on the season, edging her ever closer to the 200 mark.
Both pitchers had some help from their defense tonight in both the infield and the outfield. Performance Lab’s Haley Cooper picked a runner off just 60 feet from home plate in the third inning, Christina Dark lassoed in a screaming ground ball with a runner on third to make the last out of the fifth inning, and Jessica Burlingame made a sliding catch in shallow center field to save a base hit in the seventh. Moh-Beel’s Kaleigh Todd also made a heads-up throw to home in the third inning to keep a run from scoring.
The same two teams will return to action tomorrow at Pat Hicks Field at 7 PM to see who will be crowned the ultimate victor of the ASBA 2019 season. Be sure to catch the game on the ASBA Network at https://asbasoftball.com/network/
